Cleaning Protection Shields

- 3 min read

Routine Care

To combat the existence of germs, bacteria, and viruses, the surfaces of all Protection Shields should be cleaned daily with a solution of dishwashing liquid and warm water applied with a clean microfiber cloth.

Polycarbonate Panels

Polycarbonate plastic is less likely to absorb germs and bacteria than fabric. Stains can be removed using any water-based cleaning agents or foam with a damp cloth. Sanitize the panels by spraying with disinfecting spray such as Lysol. The polycarbonate will not be damaged by any water-free solvent or water-based cleaning product.

Acrylic Panels

When clear plastic becomes dirty, it can appear dull. Frequent cleanings should prevent this and are easy to do with materials you likely already have.

To clean acrylic or plexiglass panels, use soapy water and a micro-fiber cloth to avoid damaging the panels. Be sure to lightly blot the surface rather than applying too much pressure as you wipe. Aggressively rubbing the acrylic might accidentally scratch the surface.

Acrylic Shield

After you have wiped the entire piece of acrylic, use a dry cloth to buff the area and remove any lingering liquid or suds. Buffing or polishing the acrylic surface reduces the risk of future stains, allowing for more time between cleanings. Let sit for a moment before checking for remaining streaks. If any are left, rewet the cloth and dry it again.

Avoid using paper towels as they might scratch the surface. Avoid using ammonia-based products, like Windex or other home glass cleaners, because they contain harmful chemicals that might damage the surface and leave it looking cloudy. Soapy water is the safest and most effective cleaning solution for acrylic.

Tri-Fold Countertop Shields

The Tri-Fold shields have easy-to-clean acrylic panels. Use a mixture of dish soap and water and apply using a soft cloth and then dry with a clean cloth. Disinfectant wipes and be used to disinfect.

The following cleaning can also be used:

  • Bleach mixed with water
  • Ammonia
  • 91% Rubbing Alcohol
  • Foam Glass Cleaner (Ammonia free)
  • Butoxyethanol (industrial cleaner for hard surfaces and glass)
  • Butyl hydroxybutyrate (industrial cleaner for hard surfaces and glass)

Aluminum Frames

The aluminum frames on the countertop shields are also easy to clean and disinfect.

Clean with a sponge or soft bristle brush and a solution of mild soap and water. Rinse with water and let dry. Use a standard cleaner to disinfect but avoid ones that are abrasive as that can erode the finish.

You can restore the luster of glossy finishes by using lemon oil or high-grade automotive paste wax. Soft Scrub® can also be used to remove scuff marks and scratches.
